Cinema Impero takes its name from a cinema built in the center of Asmara, in Eritrea, in 1937, under the fascist regime. As a language, cinema has always had the power to forge imaginaries and, in parallel, to shape and build narratives, especially when it is used for propaganda purposes by authoritarian regimes. The new languages of artificial intelligences also try both to surprise and to distort reality. Cinema Impero is a meta-narrative that mixes multiple spatiotemporal layers and different linguistic elements: video images from the historical archives of the Istituto Luce and the artist's personal archives, told and produced by two voices and two intelligences, one artificial, the other emotional. Cinema Impero is a black box that contains the language of cinema, that of theater and the algorithms of artificial intelligence. Inside this multisensory device designed for one spectator at a time, the person is placed at the center of the macro narrative and is invited to surrender to proximity, a space of intimate otherness, between the narrator and the listener.
