CROONER - DAAN

For 30 years, Daan has been surprising his loyal audience with a whirlwind of musical genres, from pop noire to indie rock, from electro to country, beats, and ballads. Usually in English, but sometimes also in Frans of Nederlands. In this theater tour, the common thread through all those genres becomes extra clear: melancholic and at the same time humorous lyrics full of visual metaphors (Daan is, after all, a graphic designer) and the (storm and) urge to translate these into almost baroque musical paintings. This tour distills all his songs in the same musical way: Daan sits behind the grand piano or guitar. Isolde Lasoen – his musical muse for 25 years – takes care of vibraphone, drums, trumpet, bells, and angelic singing. The virtuoso Jean-François Assy, known as a musician for, among others, Alain Bashung, William Sheller of Yann Thiersen, plays his atypical cello. Every evening something just a little different happens, because Daan, in addition to his own repertoire of more than 300 songs, just as gladly and idiosyncratically interprets his favorite covers. For those who missed the ‘Simple’ tour at the time or want to hear the sequel, Daan is climbing back on stage this winter, with a new vinyl and new songs included. The setting, more intimate halls for seated audiences, gives him the chance to get closer to the audience than ever. He takes that chance fully and takes the time to share the stories behind his colorful life path and mysterious lyrics. The result is a theatrical cabaret full of emotion and ecstasy.
