Nele tries too hard. All her life she has been a good little child. She scores all tens on every report card and eats all her veggies with a grim smile. Nele does what is expected. Nele is a bit overstressed. And so tired, dead tired. Nele wants something else for once. Nele will be forty soon. She is too old for this. It must be over soon. It is time to finally become a naughty child.
‘Mijn Best’ is the first solo performance by Nele Needs A Holiday. With new songs and way too long connecting texts. Do you sometimes feel like the only loser on this planet? No need, Nele is here to comfort you with a string of recognizable songs full of self-deprecation. Bittersweet never tasted so good before.
Nele Van den Broeck writes a weekly column for De Standaard. Her books ‘Halfvolwassen’ and ‘Iemand Anders’ (published last year and already in fourth printing) received strong reviews. Nele earned her spurs in the theater but also on concert stages with her rock band Nele Needs A Holiday. She provided a roar of laughter in ‘Totdatzeerdoet’ (production with Roos Van Acker, Pascale Platel, and Nele).
‘Intriguing and disarming songs.’ - Juryrapport Humo's Rock Rally
‘Long time since we came out of a concert with such a blissful smile on our faces as with Nele. [...] The music sounded particularly fresh and the lyrics were at times not only to laugh your head off, they were also full of, sometimes highly absurd, but always very fine and witty trouvailles. Van den Broeck did her own thing uncompromisingly against all applicable rules and that was a pleasure to see and hear. This was really on fire, Nele is honest and real.’ - TAZette
‘Nele fuses flair, sarcasm, and recognizability into sparkling cabaret.’ - Juryrapport Theater Aan Zee
