40-year-old Edith is a journalist and a single mother by choice via a sperm donor. She is happy with her young son Sigurd, but single parenthood also makes her insecure about what she has to offer. When she unexpectedly discovers the donor's identity, her curiosity gets the better of her. Edith decides to seek him out under the false pretense of an interview about his tech company. That risky decision not only throws her own life and emotions into turmoil, but also those of many around her. Specifically for Cinema ZED Leuven The screening on June 30th will be subtitled in English. Commentaar Deze sensitive Norwegian tragicomedy explores in an intimate way and with a touch of humor the minefield of modern parenthood and associated questions about identity, connection, and what ethical boundaries we are willing to cross when it comes to children. Inspired by the life of a friend of the filmmaker, director Janické Askevold avoids the clichés surrounding sperm donors and has made a layered film with - in good Norwegian tradition - excellent acting performances. Solomamma premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where the film was awarded the Ecumenical Prize - the Award that is always given to the most socially valuable and poignant film.
