A classical
concert full of jokes? Yes, indeed! In this interactive performance full of humor and
live music, Klara presenter Clara De Decker and pianist/narrator
Waldo Geuns take you to the silly side of classical music.
Did you know that there is a
lot of well-known music that composers jotted down ‘as a joke’ and ‘between the soup
and the potatoes’? When they were not working on their grand symphonies and
sonatas, Mozart, Chopin, Grieg of Saint-Saëns liked to let their imagination run wild in short,
now often legendary piano pieces.
The notes flowed
effortlessly onto paper when they composed about a
cat-and-mouse chase, about a dog trying to catch its own tail,
or about a flying bumblebee. Just like us, those great names of the past loved beautiful swans or cursed when they had lost their keys again. The musical works they wrote about that are sometimes crazy, very
virtuosic, or just oh so romantic.
During
‘For a joke’, Clara and Waldo put a smile on your face and challenge you
to make music along. Just as virtuosic as the piano works, so juicy are the
anecdotes they tell. Clap, sing along, and put your imagination to work.
Because, before you know it, you will crawl into the skin of a real composer yourself and go
home with your own composition.
