Alfa Mist

For autodidact Alfa Mist, feeling is more important than perfection. It is the credo that has driven the multi-instrumentalist, rapper and producer since his first album ‘Nocturne’ from 2015. With a unique mix of intimate bedroom productions and lush jazz orchestration as a trademark, he is one of the most focused and sought-after musicians of UK jazz. Alfa Mist worked with Jordan Rakei and Tom Misch and made beats for Loyle Carner. In addition, he composed pieces for the Londen Contemporary Orchestra and reworked music by composer Ólafur Arnalds for jazz label Blue Note. Like many of his peers who grew up in East London, grime was Alfa Mist's first love. Through UK rap and American hip hop, he discovered the jazz influences and samples in the music of artists like Blackstar, Madlib and J. Dilla. He taught himself to play piano and work with music software. With his mellow, innovative urban jazz with alternative hip hop beats and poetic rap, Alfa Mist shows himself on albums like ‘Antiphon’ (2017), ‘Structuralism’ (2019) and ‘Bring Backs’ (2021) as a versatile and exciting artist who always comes up with something new.
