Wannes Van De Velde continues to inspire. With him, the ‘Antweirps’ dialect became a cultural language. In this project, we especially honor his earliest period. The classics. The work that creaks and bites the most. Zoals Wannes himself was: surveying the world, high from ‘his attic’, but without looking down. Sharp, however, for everything that was fake or did injustice to ‘the common man’. The quintessential folk Sinjoor. Wannes was and remains known for his ‘Antweirpse’ folk music. But his music was also strongly inspired by other genres, especially jazz and flamenco.
You can only approach Wannes with authenticity. Sharp and without frills. Your host is Wannes-admirer Kevin Van Staeyen (vocals and violin). He is artistically supported by none other than Bernard Van Lent, Wannes' original accordionist.
A singer is a group. Thus, this ensemble always tries to follow Wannes' soul. Leaning as closely as possible to the original line-up. Consequently, Bernard is on stage out of enthusiasm. Kevin and Bernard are musically surrounded by Ronald Dedrie (transverse flute) and Frank De Wolf (double bass). Together, they let the audience relive Wannes' music in their own way.
‘Over Wannes” is a soothing respite in this time when there is rarely a day “that they aren't shooting”… A world in which there is especially a great need to just “get lost in the streets for a night” again…
