SitarTrip - CLUB M, Nicolas Mortelmans

SitarTrip is a musical performance in which the Belgian sitar player Nicolas Mortelmans takes you on a journey that begins in India and ends in the West. Nicolas spent a lot of time in India himself to delve into the sitar, and he studied with various masters, including the world-famous Anoushka Shankar. In April 2024, Nicolas released his debut album MĀYĀ on WERF Records. With it, he played a club tour at home and abroad, performed during Gent Jazz and Sfinks Festival, and received airplay on Radio 1 and Klara. In November 2025, Nicolas released his second album SPACE on Rotkat Records and is touring together with Tim Vanhamel, Stef Kamil Carlens, and Teun Verbruggen. During SitarTrip, Nicolas will delve deeper into the origin of the sitar, Indian music, and its rich culture. Through a few personal stories, we end up in the West, where Ravi Shankar and The Beatles introduced the instrument. SitarTrip is primarily a musical experience with a lot of live music, played by the Nicolas Mortelmans Quartet.
