ANTE Festival: Passages of Brussels, a luminous idea

As part of the ANTE Festival, we invite you to a neoclassic tour in the center of Brussels. The Belgian capital had up to 50 covered passages in the 1850s and exported the model to several other cities in Belgium. Inaugurated in 1847, the Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert are among the oldest in Europe. These covered passages protected an affluent clientele from bad weather and offered them outings to the theater, cinema, restaurants, and access to various shops. We will journey through the history of three of these passages, each of which exudes a particular light, poetry, and nostalgia.
