Photography Workshop Tree Frogs in Belgian Limburg

Tree frogs are special little animals that are difficult to find and admire. In a place in Belgisch Limburg, not far from Hasselt, it is teeming with these cute green frogs with adhesive discs on their feet. We discover the beautiful nature reserve and photograph the tree frogs while they are sunbathing. Of course, the animals are not touched. Natuurfotografe Sandy Spaenhoven provides expert guidance. Her goal: to take your photography to a higher level. We photograph with respect! That means, among other things, that the thickets, which are so important for the frogs, are NOT entered. If a tree frog is too far away to be able to photograph it well, we use telephoto lenses, or we find another tree frog further on that is a bit closer to the path. The well-being of the frogs is paramount; every participant is therefore expected to treat the animals and their environment respectfully and also help keep the location secret afterwards. In case of very bad weather forecasts, the activity is postponed, because tree frogs love nice weather… For whom? The photo workshop is primarily aimed at beginning photographers with basic skills. But more advanced photographers are of course also welcome. After all, while photographing, we take everyone to a higher level, without losing sight of the wishes of the participants themselves. Concrete questions we ask include: How do I make stronger compositions? How do I make an image more engaging or creative? How do I deal with technical limitations such as bright light? During the individual guidance, there is of course attention for the technical aspects of the camera, histogram, depth of field, and background. Regarding prior knowledge, it is important that you can adjust the settings of the camera yourself (especially regarding ISO, shutter speed, and aperture). What equipment do you need? Preferably an SLR or system camera. To be able to capture tree frogs nicely, a (light) telephoto lens and/or macro lens is absolutely an added value. A telephoto lens (e.g., 300 mm) also has the advantage that you can also photograph tree frogs that are a bit further from the path or a bit more hidden. A tripod is not a must (and also gives a greater chance of disturbing the tree frogs). Mosquito repellent can be useful. Number of participants Maximum 6 participants. Duration of workshop From 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. Own transport or with the minibus from Ghent via Brussel Je can ride along with the minibus from Ghent (via Brussels) or come to the meeting place with own transport. The minibus departs from the Ghent region (Destelbergen) at 6:30 am. On the way to the Hasselt region, we provide these additional boarding places as an option: Gentbrugge, Wetteren, Erpe-Mere, Aalst, Affligem, Ternat, Groot-Bijgaarden, Vilvoorde, Leuven (Kessel-Lo), Aarschot, Halen, and Lummen. If you choose your own transport, you can expect an email shortly before the workshop with the exact coordinates. We expect you there on Friday, July 31, at 8:30 am. Are you riding along with the minibus? We expect you on Friday, July 31, at the right time at the boarding place you selected when booking. The end of the workshop is scheduled around 12:30 pm. Then the minibus also departs back home. Around 2:15 pm, we are back in Ghent (Destelbergen). If you come with your own transport, you can feel free to stay in the area to continue photographing if you wish.
