Art Nouveau for everyone

The Art Nouveau style is most often associated with the construction of bourgeois dwellings, with sumptuous decorations reserved for an elite. But did you know that in Brussels, some architects chose to use the forms and motifs of this style to design public buildings and modest housing? Among them, the architect Henri Jacobs particularly distinguished himself. He is the author of numerous schools, but also of several public housing complexes. This visit, in the Plasky neighborhood in Schaerbeek, sets out to discover the work of the one who chose to put his talent at the service of the community by making Art Nouveau an "art for all". Art Nouveau is, moreover, very present in the facade decorations of more modest and often anonymous Brussels houses. Some architects sometimes show, with few means, an extraordinary creativity.
