‘Heritage and sustainable future’ is central during Open Monumentendag 2026. In Kortenberg, too, we are putting special heritage in the spotlight this year, with special attention to the recently purchased site Le Cygne at the Park of the Oude Abdij. Le Cygne is a unique place with a rich history. From 1922, the site housed the oldest folding rule factory in Belgium and grew into a piece of industrial heritage that is closely linked to the history of Kortenberg. With the recent purchase, the municipality wants to preserve this special location and give it a new, sustainable purpose in the future where heritage, nature, culture, and experience come together. Tijdens Open Monumentendag gives the public the chance to discover the site up close. Visitors can walk around freely, participate in guided tours of the site, and learn more about the history of Le Cygne and the abbey site. Families and children can also expect a playful and creative day. Compagnie That’s It brings ‘Château Fraise’, an interactive children's animation full of fantasy and fun. With more than 2500 recycled plant pots, children build a colorful strawberry castle, towers, thrones, and crazy constructions together. Juggling, balancing, and creative building are central to this unique experience for young and old. In short: a fascinating day full of heritage, stories, discovery, and creativity at a special location in Kortenberg. More practical info and the full program will follow soon. Preferably come on foot or by bike. More info: kortenberg.be/zomer-op-stelten, cultuur@kortenberg.be or 02 755 30 70
