Nar On music from Balochistan (Pakistan)

Thu, 13 Aug 2026 · 18:45
Auditorium KBR, Brussels
€33
Nar Sur is a rare and powerful tradition of throat singing and music from Balochistan (Pakistan), deeply rooted in language, oral tradition and poetic expression. For centuries, Nar Sur has played an essential role in preserving the collective memory, history and identity of Balochi communities — by passing on stories, knowledge and lived experiences from generation to generation. For the very first time in Europe, three Balochi musicians bring this ancient and living musical tradition to the stage. During the concert, the sounds of the algoza (double flute), the dambiro (Balochi tambura) and the characteristic throat singing merge into an intense musical dialogue. Melody, rhythm and voice intertwine with Balochi poetry, creating a sound world that is simultaneously raw, meditative, hypnotic and deeply emotional. The music tells stories about land, history, community and human connection. In addition to the performances, the musicians also share stories and explanations about the origin and meaning of the songs. The result is not just a concert, but an encounter with a living culture that is rarely experienced outside its own region. This performance offers the public a unique opportunity to experience Nar Sur as it was always intended: not just as music that is performed, but as music that is lived. A rare and extraordinary concert where tradition, stories, poetry and sound come together — for the first time in Europe.
