Because the grass doesn't grow by pulling on it… This theater performance takes place in a unique location: a rural, active farmyard in Waasmunster, where the cows and calves are still walking around. The ideal setting to fully immerse yourself in the atmosphere and theme of the play. The barn of the farm of Jan Burm becomes a theater hall for once. Farmers is the story of two farmer's sons. One has taken over the farm and the other has left. They come from a family where no one touches anyone. More silence than speaking. There is all sorts of things in the air that are not spoken out. Brotherly hatred and brotherly love fight for balance here. That one woman who is not there also plays a role. The performance is set against the background of the contemporary, complex life of (Flemish) farmers: the many challenges such as climate care, the clashing of nature and agriculture, regulations, but also family pressure and the economic reality pass in review. Farmer's misery.... Moving, beautiful, and fortunately also often funny. Erik Vlaminck (1954), novel and theater author, always knows how to combine social engagement with beautiful and accessible texts. To write this piece, he stayed with farmers for a week in every season of the year. He watched, listened, and noted the hard life of the farmer and the farmer's wife. The result provides a sharp play about a painfully current situation: against their will and thanks, with a lot of love for animals, continuing to farm or giving up. Or worse, seeing no way out. You know Erik Vlaminck from the novel Suikerspin . For those who remember: last season Warre Borgmans performed the play Tir Arthur here, based on the text of the book Suikerspin . “Farmers is a true tribute to all farmers. For the hard workers who, with their diligent labor, ensure that beautiful and tasty things end up on our plates. These are also hard times for them and they don't always have it easy.” - Hendrik Vandamme, Algemeen Boerensyndicaat From and with Text: Erik Vlaminck Cast: Hans Van Cauwenberghe, Katrien Pierlet (farmer's daughter herself), and Gert Jochems Direction: Jo Jochems SUCCESS OPTION at 7:00 PM : You can buy tickets for the 7:00 PM performance if the 3:00 PM one is sold out
