Debussy's Afternoon is a recital dedicated solely to the music of Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Music that invites you to dive into Debussy's symbolist universe, through the exploration of dreams, the mysterious night, the unconscious, the invisible, the almost mystical inner spirituality, mythology, the soul... Debussy revolutionized the modern piano, with compositions with sounds said to be rather impressionistic in form, favoring atmosphere and harmonic colors. Painting colors in music, with scales, chords, and rhythms. Painting landscapes, elements of nature, cities, but also inner emotions that find a correspondence between states of mind and landscapes. His melodies constitute an important part of his work and testify to his deep attachment to poetry. His first attempts, still very romantic, already demonstrate his specific style, with a vivid taste for singing and a rare poetic sense. We will listen to poems by Paul Verlaine (1844-1898) in “ariettes oubliées”, “Mandoline”, by Paul Bourget (1852-1935) “Nuit d’étoiles” “Beau soir” “Deux romances”, by Pierre Louÿs “Trois chansons de Bilitis”... but also his own texts in free verse in “Proses lyriques”. Debussy's music is a perfect marriage between Symbolism and Impressionism.
