Parlement Ostbelgien, guided visit - Short city walk - Slate mine and bluestone museum, guided visit Het Parlement of the Duitstalige Gemeenschap (Ostbelgien) is the legislative assembly of the Duitstalige Gemeenschap in Belgium. It is based in Eupen and represents the inhabitants of the nine German-speaking municipalities in East Belgium. Main characteristics: The parliament has 25 directly elected members. It approves decrees, comparable to laws within its powers. It controls the government of the Duitstalige Gemeenschap and elects this government. It is responsible for, among other things, education, culture, youth, sports, welfare, health, employment, tourism, housing, and local authorities. For information: the Duitstalige Gemeenschap is nowadays also often referred to as Ostbelgien, but the official constitutional name remains \"Duitstalige Gemeenschap\". De Leisteenmijn & Blauwesteenmuseum van Recht is a unique heritage site in the East Cantons where visitors get acquainted with the history of slate mining and stone processing. During an underground walk of approximately 800 meters, you will discover impressive mine galleries and learn more about the heavy work of the miners. In the museum, tools and objects made from local bluestone are exhibited, which show how important this stone was for daily life and the regional economy. The site offers a fascinating insight into the industrial past of Recht and the craftsmanship of the stonemasons who processed the famous “Rechter Blauwe Steen”.
