Guided walk: Blankenberge - Behind the facades of the Belle Epoque

Sun, 6 Sept 2026 · 14:00
Blankenberge station, Blankenberge

Blankenberge grew from a fishing village into a bustling seaside resort. Discover this during a walk and a visit to the Belle Epoque Centrum. Blankenberge looks like a seaside resort, but behind the facades lies a story about how tourism shapes a city. Who was the first to come here to celebrate their holidays? Who built churches, avenues, and grandeur here for visitors from outside? And what did that mean for the people who lived and worked here? We start at the station, where the stream of day-trippers has been arriving for over a century. From there, we follow the growth of Blankenberge in short stages: from a fishing village to a fashionable seaside resort, built step by step for the public that sought relaxation here. After a short walk, we continue the story in the Belle Epoque Centrum. There, we will dive deeper into the time of grandeur, health resorts, and summer crowds, and look at how this period permanently changed the appearance and life in the city. Practical Departure on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 2 PM at the Blankenberge station. Guided walk through Blankenberge (1 hour) + guided visit to the Belle Epoque Centrum (1 hour). Je Blik Historik-guide: Marc D’Haene (walk). By joining the walk, you save a point on your Blik Historik savings card .
