What happens when letters become music?
On Sunday, September 6, we cordially invite you to the Vakwerkhoeve Schakkebroek for a special literary concert with songs based on texts by Guido Gezelle.
In this program, letters and emails form the gateway to the music. We start from the correspondence that Gezelle conducted with composers of his time: exchanges about poetry, inspiration, and the creation of music. Each story leads to a song based on a text by Gezelle, composed by the composer involved.
In addition, the present also has a place. Bart Vandekerkhove (baritone), initiator of Gezelle Gezongen, chairman of the Guido Gezellekring, member of the Gezelle Society and volunteer at the letter project of the Gezelle Archive in Bruges, takes the audience along in his own correspondence with composers who, to this day, write new songs based on texts by Gezelle.
Together with Stan Driesen (piano), he brings these letters, stories, and music together into a concert in which word and sound alternate and reinforce each other. Historical and contemporary correspondence thus form the common thread through a program in which Gezelle's poetry is brought to singing again and again.
After the concert, you are cordially invited to chat over a cup of coffee and a snack.
Places are limited – reservations are recommended. Admission 20 €, please pay in advance to BE84 7351 3926 0359 (in the name of Anna-Maria Peere)
