Mercury Rev
Sinds their founding in 1989 in Buffalo, New York Mercury Rev conquered a unique place in indie rock. Their music combines dreamy lyrics, lush instrumentation, and fairy-tale melodies, often described as dream pop. Live, they add a solid rock layer to that. By now, they have twelve albums to their name.
In 1998, Mercury Rev put themselves on the map with their fourth album: the acclaimed Deserter's songs. With timeless songs like Holes and Goddess on a highway, they broke through definitively. The album was named Album of the Year by NME and features in lists like Pitchfork's 100 Favoriete Platen of the 1990s, Melody Makers All Time Top 100 Albums (2000), and Uncut's 200 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Opvolger All is dream appeared in 2001 - exactly 25 years ago next year - and is at least as impressive. The album is known for its melancholic atmosphere, rich arrangements, and poetic lyrics and combines rock with orchestral and psychedelic influences. The unique voice of Jonathan Donahue contributes much to the atmosphere of the album. With themes like love, loss, and self-reflection, the album also gets a strong emotional charge.
All is dream builds on the style of Deserter's songs, but sounds more intense and poetic. With songs like The dark is rising and Tides of the moon, the album managed to touch both fans and critics and received much praise worldwide. An album that, a quarter of a century later, still unites old and new fans.
Mick Harvey & Amanda Acevedo
Mick Harvey and Amanda Acevedo join Mercury Rev as support on this tour in response to their third album Psychedelia in white (to be released in August 2026). This follows Golden mirrors (2025) and their debut Phantasmagoria in blue (2023).
Harvey was for years the musical right hand of Nick Cave in The Birthday Party and The Bad Seeds. Later he appeared, among others, in Crime & the City Solution, with PJ Harvey, and with Anita Lane. Solo, he made, among others, two albums with translated songs of Serge Gainsbourg. His collaboration with the Mexican singer Acevedo began in 2021 during the pandemic and grew into a close artistic partnership.
“Met Deserter's songs seemed Mercury Rev at the peak of his abilities. Met All is dream, the group surpasses itself.” De Standaard, Aug 28, 2021
“Like Disney on methadone scored by Jack Nitzsche with a gun against his own head, trying to remember this soundtrack he once wanted to make, which teamed Judy Garland and Neil Young.” Uncut, 2001
