Dimitri Leue retranslated the original text of Maurice Maeterlincks masterpiece about forbidden desires and human folly, stripping the text of its dust and putting it in a modern jacket. In an atmospheric forest, Frank Focketyn and Rashif El Kaoui transform into rival courtiers fighting for love. They circle each other like rutting deer, trapped in a superlative of love. After all, is there a greater fool than the person in love? The two top actors tumble lightly through this courtly story, while the threat is constantly lurking. While the actors treat the audience to a range of raw emotions, the music forms the heartbeat of the performance. The compositions that once inspired greats like Sibelius, Fauré, and Debussy flow together here in a jazzy sound and feel arrangement by Antoon Offeciers.
