Wilko (werewolf), Keelin (elf), and Vlad (vampire) – together the Night Watch – are invited by the Hoge Raad. Where they expect a tribute, a serious accusation awaits them instead. The president of the Council, Xantara, destroys their symbols and thus strips them of their powers. Without those symbols, they can no longer protect their village of Schemermeer. They soon discover Xantara’s true plans: she wants to destroy the human world with the Crystal of Evil. De Nachtwacht faces their greatest challenge ever: restoring their powers and stopping Xantara before it is too late.
