During Easter time, the passion story invites a moment of reflection. With Met Ruth Reinhardt at the helm and young soloists from the Muziekkapel Koningin Elisabeth by her side, we explore dualities such as suffering and redemption, light and dark in Bach's double concerto. We begin with Symphony No. 49, nicknamed ‘La Passione’, from the Haydns Sturm und Drang period. In accordance with the literary movement of the same name, Haydn seeks more depth, expression, and emotional intensity in these years. Béla Bartók then brings us into a magical, nocturnal atmosphere. In In Bartóks's daring sound world, folkloric rhythms are alternated with strict structures such as the Fibonacci sequence. Robbrecht and Daem architects translate the program into a lighting design that makes the play from dark to light explicit. Programma Dirigent: Ruth Reinhardt Solisten: Rio Arai and Jingzhi Zhang, violin August De Boeck (1865 - 1937) / Elegie Joseph Haydn (1732 - 1809) / Symphony No. 49 ‘La Passione’ Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) / Concerto for 2 violins Béla Bartók (1881 - 1945) / Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta
