Chatter in the Elsakker

On Sunday, November 8, Natuurpunt Markvallei heads to the Elsakker nature reserve in Meerle for an autumnal Markathon walk. We leave at 2:00 PM from the parking lot of the Elsakker, along the Chaamseweg in Meerle. The theme of the day: spotting mushrooms and being amazed by the quiet, often hidden world on the forest floor. De Elsakker is a beautiful area of the Agency for Nature and Forest, where deciduous and coniferous forests, old lanes, and open spaces form a mosaic in which fungi thrive. Accompanied, we explore paths and open spaces, search for caps and stalks in all colors and shapes, and learn to know the difference between gills and tubes, between ink mushrooms, fly agarics, and boletes. We pause at their role as cleaners, cohabitants with trees, and as indispensable links in the forest. The autumn air, the crunching leaves under our feet, and the moment of surprise at every new find make this afternoon complete. Curious which mushrooms we will see?
