Walk Huize Hageland (8 km)

Na Huize Hageland - formerly the presbytery of the Sint-Martinus parish - we visit the Lourdes grotto on the Blereberg. De Sint-Martinus Church is recognized by the government as architectural heritage and protected as a monument and village view. Via the Kattenbosje and the Alsberg we reach Motbroek. Langs de Oude Leuvensebaan unfolds an immense open landscape with vistas to the water tower in Meensel-Kiezegem, a panorama over Tielt with the churches of Sint-Maarten and Onze-Lieve-Vrouw, the Walenbos, Houwaart and the wind turbines along the motorway in Bekkevoort. The owners of the Goedhuyshoeve built a chapel in honor of Sint-Donatus. De Vlooybergtoren with 57 steps is the eye-catcher of this trip. Built in 2013, destroyed after an explosion and renovated in 2018, it offers visitors at the top a view of 14 churches (e.g. Basiliek van Scherpenheuvel, Abdij van Averbode, …) and 10 companies (e.g. cooling towers of Electrabel in Vilvoorde, the spoil tips of Beringen and Heusden-Zolder, …).
