Faire de Bruxelles a large tertiary city, European capital at the crossroads of international flows: such is the economic and urban project at work in the aftermath of the 2nd Guerre Mondiale. The historic city center, the Leopold district, the small ring boulevards, the station districts, the whole city is concerned by this movement of destruction and urban modernization. Today, the major works carried out during this period are commonly referred to by the term "Brusselization", namely the brutal transformation and functional division of the city at the expense of its inhabitants. This functionalist vision, disconnected from the traditional urban fabric, has historically been denounced by the ARAU. More than half a century later, Brusselization is a legacy with which one must somehow or other compose. The constructions of the era constitute an important architectural heritage for Brussels and on which one must bet to reinvest these districts with urbanity. However, the proposals of the public authorities promoting functional mix struggle to convince as they reproduce methods and projects that are outdated. What legacy then to give to Brusselization? And what are the pitfalls that we must confront today for the future of these districts? These are the questions to which we will try to answer during the visit!
