Stories hidden in building blocks, statues, stained glass windows... We highlight art styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, neo-styles to quirky modern art forms. Tombstones show knights in full battle gear, flashy family coats of arms, and honorary titles. We reflect on the broad past of the village and neighborhood. Amazing stories behind saint statues, sometimes with bizarre gruesome attributes, are also not missing. Now that the religious influx is ebbing, treasures of heritage, treasures of stories from our past often remain hidden behind locks and under alarm. Discover the project ‘Vlaamse Meesters in their place’ and get to know hidden pearls of Flemish masters in special locations under the guidance of a guide. The church is a foundation of the lords of Elderen in 1261. The current church in Maas-Gothic style dates from the 15th century. Restoration took place in 1899-1900 under the guidance of Fernand Lohest. The church is connected to the residents of the castle of ’s Herenelderen with the families of Hamal, de Croÿ, de Renesse. Highlights: Tombstones from the 13th century to the 18th century. Gothic altarpiece, Renaissance stained glass windows, and tondos from the 16th century. When?
