On January 30, 1972, a peaceful protest march in Northern Ireland resulted in a tragedy. The drama received an unforgettable echo in U2’s iconic protest song Sunday Bloody Sunday and thus became more than a historical moment: it became music that continues to speak. In this performance, Cathérine Moerkerke guides you along crucial turning points from recent world history, supported by musicians Naomi Sijmons (Reena Riot), Thomas Vanelslander, Axl Peleman and Ron Reuman. They connect stories of anger, sadness, resistance and hope with songs by, among others, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Bloc Party and U2. What happened when the Twin Towers collapsed? How did New York feel after the arrest of Bin Laden? With personal stories and strong live music, this performance shows how songs help us understand, process and remember.
