Motus Murmuri | The Idle Hour | Theater on the Market 2026

In 'The idle hour', two acrobats share the stage with a life-sized hamster wheel. One seeks stillness, the other just keeps going. The wheel turns. Sometimes of its own free will, sometimes because stopping proves more difficult than continuing. Without words, that image grows into a stilled performance about movement, repetition, and the desire for rest. About the company Motus Murmuri is a young circus company around artistic director Samuel Rhyner. The name translates loosely to ‘the murmur of movement’ and refers to the place where the company's work originates: at the crossroads of circus, dance, and music. The performances of Motus Murmuri communicate through body, movement, and sound. They are often wordless and therefore accessible across language, age, and national borders. Their work seeks a delicate balance between abstraction and absurdism, and creates a moment of slowing down in which the audience can enter an idiosyncratic universe.
