Professor Isaac Borg must go to Lund to receive an honorary distinction crowning his brilliant medical career. The day before, he has a strange dream that encourages him to drive across the country in his car rather than fly. His daughter-in-law Marianne, who left home to distance herself from her husband, decides to make the trip with him. During this journey, Isaac will remember various episodes that marked his life.
