I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW - Ode to democracy (with free fries afterwards!)

Democracy! That means freedom. Being able to speak your mind without fear. Being allowed to vote. Being able to protest. Dressing how you want. Loving who you want. Choosing which God you want to believe in - or not believe in. This is surely what everyone wishes for. Why are words like politics and democracy then increasingly spoken with a sour face? What is going on? What is wrong with democracy? The benefits of democracy are great, but not self-evident. Threats are lurking. Quick-fix politicians with fast solutions for complicated problems. But we, the people, must also dare to look in the mirror. We are fickle and increasingly shout: I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW! But that's not how it works. That's not how politics was conceived. That's never how it was intended. Our democracy is not perfect - often slow, confusing, and complicated. Impure. But let's not take the slippery path of anti-politics. Let's stay involved. This lecture-performance (55’) is not a new truth, but a necessary reminder. Sometimes it is useful to repeat something in order to be able to look at it anew.
