Ename, center of power
The fire of the Notre Dame in Paris, the art theft by the Nazis in the Tweede Wereldoorlog, the water bomb in Wallonia, wars in Ukraine and Syria, … Time and again, disasters and wars also strike our heritage.
It was no different in Ename. The small village was once the home base of a powerful abbey, until the Franse Revolutie dealt a sledgehammer blow. The last abbot fled with part of the archive and his most precious family possessions. Art treasures, farms, and mills were forgotten or disappeared.
Back in the picture for the first time
What seemed lost now appears in the picture again. For the first time, the original collection and long-forgotten abbey possessions are back together in this temporary exhibition
