My fellow fighters with great talent, I saw them disappear and I think of them. They did not say goodbye to their audience. I do not want to make that mistake, absolutely not.
During the lonely corona days, the thought ripened in me to sing a final round through villages and cities where I have been. After all, I still remember every second there; it was a party.
How grateful I am for the audience that never let me down all those years. So now it is time to say goodbye, even if it hurts. That is what I have decided, and so it shall be!
I carry the musicians in my heart. They helped me to be who I was. Even today I am surrounded by them, because "a singer is a group," said Wannes, and I learned so much from him!
Are there songs that remain? I hope so. I will sing them for you one more time with heart and soul. Every audience deserves that; I owe it to them, that is my duty.
After that, I will move to the Oudezangershuis. After all, music was my life; music was my home!
My body may creak sometimes, but I can still manage to touch you one more time, and then... Farewell!
"Someday a song had to be the last one I will sing for you."
Johan Verminnen
"The last round, the last time
I think it's a shame, but I'll never come again This is a goodbye and not a see you later This is forever and no maybe
The last round."
