How do we relate to what disappears, remains hidden, or is only partially visible? The films in this program do not approach the world as something that can become fully visible or knowable. Through analog film practices, memory, language, voices, gestures, and attentive presence, they seek other forms of proximity and understanding. Different bodies, such as those of animals, spirits, humans, and landscapes, appear in these films not as separate categories, but as intertwined forms of existence. The ocean writes itself onto the film emulsion, voices carry memories further, and language becomes a way to keep relationships with places, histories, and more-than-human worlds alive. The films move between mourning and tribute. They dwell on what was lost or threatens to disappear, but also seek ways to remain connected to what seems absent. Together they form an invitation to listen to what remains: in traces, stories, water, and memory. With films by David Gatten, Jiayi Chen, Leena Habiballa, Sky Hopinka, and Valentina Alvarado Matos.
