Kaat Van Stralen does not let itself be put into a box just like that and grew from a solo project into a genre-transcending punk band. Strict but fair, Kaat calls all genres to account: from punk and psychedelia to alternative spoken word. Expect heated language noise, cracking beats, biting guitar riffs, and pompous bassing. After winning at Sound Track 2023 and a residency in Het Depot, the band broke through definitively at the beginning of 2025 with the debut single ‘Stop Met Wenen’. This punk rock anthem for women and outsiders earned them the win in De Nieuwe Lichting and was followed in November 2025 by the EP ‘Vieze Vlinder’. With an idiosyncratic Flemish translation of influences like Amyl & The Sniffers and Fiona Apple, Kaat became a phenomenon in record time, with a number 1 hit in De Afrekening, a viral TikTok status, and performances at Pukkelpop and Best Kept Secret. Their impact was definitively sealed with a MIA in the category ‘Alternative’ and a passage in De Slimste Mens ter Wereld.
