murmur: whispering, murmuring, humming, grumbling, babbling, splashing, rustling ‘Murmur’ is a performance by the circus company Grensgeval and aifoon, who also previously made ‘Plock’ together. In ‘Murmur’, an (aerial) acrobat and a composer investigate the boundaries between human, nature, and technology together. Camiel swings, throws, and flings speakers from which nature sounds emerge. He covers them, dampens them, hands them out. In this way, he makes an acrobatic, moving sound composition live. He sticks speakers on his body, goes into the air. Is he a helicopter? A swarm of starlings? A cocoon? Or just a searching human? He hoists a creaking speaker onto his back, drags himself like a snail over the ground. Suddenly the backpacks of the viewers start to buzz and everything and everyone becomes part of a whirlwind of sound. Are you a human in a group? An animal in a swarm? Or an instrument in a composition? Or are you all of them at the same time? ‘Murmur’ is circus-sound theater that stimulates all the senses.
