THEATER – Theater where humor, honesty and science unashamedly run into each other. Let’s toast to menopause. Leave the hall with your head held high, slightly lower-hanging breasts (for the ladies) and a healthy dose of self-confidence. Long live menopause! In the performance ‘Bloedheet & tranen’, presenter and theater maker Evi Hanssen explores with the necessary dose of humor how menopause, that wonderful phase in a woman’s life, influences her body and mind. She talks about her struggles with herself and her environment, her transition from fiery sex bomb to self-confident graying lady and the hormonal chaos that turns her life and that of her environment upside down. Just like in her previous performance ‘Sinds ik niet meer drink’, Evi engages with her audience in a playful and personal way. She shares her experiences about the changes in the female body and explains in a light-hearted, yet scientifically substantiated way, how her hormones occasionally go their own way. With humor, she breaks taboos and celebrates menopause. This evening is dedicated to celebrating the power of women. Whether you come with friends, or in male company (because they also have to deal with menopause!), this is the ideal opportunity to toast together to this special phase. Evi Hanssen is a versatile and outspoken maker with a permanent value in the Flemish and Dutch media landscape. She is active as a television and radio presenter, podcast maker, theater maker and actress, and also a bestselling author of several books, including the acclaimed ‘Sinds ik niet meer drink’. Evi can be seen in the very popular youth series ‘#LikeMe’. Previously, she played in the telenovela ‘Lisa’, was on stage in the musical ‘Mamma Mia’ and garnered praise with her theater monologue ‘Sinds ik niet meer drink’, in which she broke a persistent taboo in a personal and accessible way. Both press and public reacted very positively. With ‘Bloedheet & tranen’, she continues to build on that recognizable signature: honest, bold and socially relevant. Once again, she consciously chooses a subject that is still talked about too little, with the mission to break open this taboo as well. Bloedheet, brutal and brilliant. (Mieke van der Raay, I Love Theater) Program about menopause is certainly also intended for men (…) A playful, sharp and informative theater lecture that makes menopause visible with humor and personality.
