SUMMER TOURS 2026 - Viconia clay pits

ANB AREA VICONIA CLAY PITS - STUIVEKENSKERKE - 7 KM De Viconia clay pits are a 40-hectare nature gem, owned and managed by the Agentschap Natuur and Forest. Boswachter Koen Vandepitte, responsible for this area, leads us towards and through these former shallow clay pits. In 1981, the area was recognized and protected as a nature reserve, which is clearly paying off. Wet meadows alternate with ponds, ditches, reed beds, and hedges. The transitions from wet to dry, from peat to clay, and from salt to fresh water ensure a diverse range of plants and animals. Every season, different birds arrive and provide a beautiful spectacle. - NEW - 4 DOMAIN WALKS This is one of the four 'domain walks' this year, where we don't do large landscape walks as usual, but focus on one area. These 4 domain walks are: July 1: provincial domain Palingbeek - July 8: ANB domain Viconia clay pits - July 15: provincial domain Kemmelberg - August 19: ANB domain Sint Sixtusbossen.
