At close quarters (Silent Rebellion)

While the country remains officially neutral during the Tweede Wereldoorlog, the population of a Swiss rural village does not look away from the atrocities in Europe. But when gruesome facts occur within their own closed Protestant community, criticism is not tolerated. 15-year-old Emma, who is pregnant after a brutal rape, also experiences this. Instead of silently accepting her fate, she goes in search of small ways of resistance. With her debut film ‘À bras-le-corps’, the Zwitserse Marie-Elsa Sgualdo pays tribute to all women who have had to fight in silence for their autonomy. This historical drama film about trauma and resistance premiered at the Venice Film Festival.
