In the family musical Baron 1898, young Jochem and the traveler Gustav meet in the inn of a small village on the Zompige Heide. Gustav is on his way to his great love in a far country and tells Jochem passionately about his adventures. Upon his departure, Jochem helps him cross the dangerous Zompige Heide. A few years later, Gustav returns to the inn in the village. No longer as an adventurer, but as the greedy Baron Hooghmoed. He has changed since he discovered that gold can be found deep in the ground of the Zompige Heide. Blinded by the glint of the gold, everything must give way: his great love, the nature around the Zompige Heide, Jochem. Everything.
