Spring Awakening

Shaken by surges of sap that sometimes overwhelm them, they seek to sincerely understand their desires in a world that strives to trivialize them, and where adults are themselves struggling with chaotic libidos. Can their fantasies be shouted into the microphone of the student radio? Assumed in broad daylight? From the repression of yesterday to the overstimulation of our talkative era, is the blossoming of sexuality less taboo? Quebec author David Paquet signs here a free adaptation of Frank Wedekind's play (1906). With his voracious humor and dazzling characters, he extracts the sap from the great themes of Spring Awakening: sexuality and prohibition, domestication and freedom, in order to make brand new buds bloom. Ilyas Mettioui (Ouragan, Écume, Hofstade…), very well surrounded, notably by choreographer Bérengère Bodin, signs his first staging at the Poche. "I think puberty deserves a medal. Our nose is seventeen; our ears are eight; our eyebrows, twelve: we look like Monsieur Patate. Our arms and legs are not the same length: when we walk, we look like a Ficello. And yet, we walk with our heads held high."
