Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert

Met Tutu Puoane (vocals) , Barnyard Bigband, Kamerkoor Helicon and Suzanna Pezo (tap dance) Duke Ellington's vibrant 'Sacred Concert' belongs to the holy of holies of American jazz music. In his final creative phase, the jazz icon dedicated himself to his famous, three-part cycle for choir, soloist and jazz orchestra. His magnum opus is rarely performed in the concert halls, not only because of the large ensemble but also because of the unconventional character of the music that builds a bridge between jazz, gospel and European religious traditions. It is not without reason that Ellington considered this work as “the most important thing I have ever written”. It breathes a universal spirituality: joy, hope, reflection and zest for life. This concert will also be performed on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 8:15 PM in the Heilig Hartkerk in Lier.
