Interbellum walk Assebroek Event

Interbellum walk Assebroek

Sun, 13 Sept 2026 · 10:30
Hoek Wantestraat - Baron Ruzettelaan, Sint-Kruis
Free
Between 1900 and the end of the 1930s, the Sint-Katarina district transformed from rural and virtually undeveloped to the urban, new and important working-class district of "Assebroucke”. At breakneck speed, new streets were laid out around a small school and temporary church. Between the row houses for the workers of La Brugeoise & Nivelles, numerous small businesses appeared: a bleachery, a diamond grinding shop, a pleasure garden, … Later followed a chic villa district in cottage style, “le Parc Ste Catherine”, and finally — with a 20-year delay — a definitive church. Practical info: The walk is also organized on Saturday, September 12, at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Registration starts on Wednesday, September 2, at 7:30 PM. Accessibility: We walk through the district.
