‘Flute playing is listening to the bird behind your eyes’ said the Dutch poet Daaldreef. Vooraleer Jowan Merckx discovered this poem, that was exactly what he had already felt all those years but hadn't been able to put into words. Always going back to the essential, and this by playing melodies that are rooted in centuries-old styles and traditions. Jowan played in various groups and ensembles in early music and folk.
