Nature story walk in Wijgmaalbroek

Sun, 4 Oct 2026 · 14:00
hoeve van Natuurpunt in Wijgmaal, Leuven
Free
Trees were sacred to Celts, Germanic peoples, Greeks, and Romans. But even in our Middle Ages, a number of tree rituals did not disappear. Hidden under a Christian cloak, the worship continued. Yet, quite a few trees also evoked fear. What made medieval man so afraid of witches and devils? During this walk, we will pause to reflect on the superstitions of our ancestors and dive into a world of magic, fairy tales, and legends. Flowers, animals, and natural phenomena are also highlighted in their mythology, their traditions, and their symbolism. Waterproof shoes are necessary. Boots are highly recommended in persistent wet weather. Only suitable for “outdoor” strollers with large wheels, not for other strollers and wheelchair users. Participation is free, but please register in advance.
