KOORLINK Choir concert 2026-2027: InCanto Vocale under the direction of Eva Vermeren. Mysteria dolorosa.

Program title: Mysteria dolorosa by InCanto Vocale Dirigent: Eva Vermeren Blokfluit: Kristin Meerts Beschrijving program In the “Psalter van Maria”, which came into use from the 14th century and acquired its fixed form of the “rosary” in the 15th century, it was customary to interrupt the series of Hail Marys at fixed moments for the contemplation of fixed mysteries of faith (“mysteries”). For the series of 5 sorrowful mysteries, InCanto Vocale, under the direction of Eva Vermeren, draws from the rich treasure of Renaissance motets around this theme. The choral pieces are brought together with creations by composer Dagmar Feyen, who, commissioned by the choir, writes his own compositions, provides existing choral pieces with his own arrangement, and lets recorder sounds enter into a dialogue with the choir. Componisten Dagmar Feyen (°1967) Orlando di Lasso (ca. 1532 – 1594) Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525 – 1594) Tomás Luis de Victoria (ca. 1548 – 1611) For more info www.koorlink.be Background info KOORLINK is inviting the project choir InCanto Vocale for the third time. In October 2020 we saw them with the program ‘Mysteria Gaudii’ and in November 2024 with the program ‘Mysteria Gloriosa’ where old choral music was brought together with contemporary arrangements by Dagmar Feyen for choir and double bass or choir and saxophone. In the same vein, a next mystery of the rosary is in the making: ‘Mysteria Dolorosa’. In this program, the choir enters into a dialogue with the recorder. Thus, all mysteries surrounding the rosary are addressed one by one through singing and music-making, together forming a concert series / project. The choir is composed of a healthy mix of professional musicians and better amateur choir singers. They aim for a semi-professional operation and level with a healthy ambition to evolve into a professional ensemble. Per project, the composition of the choir can vary in order to achieve an optimal choral sound for the intended musical atmosphere. For now, the focus is on early music (Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism) and the repertoire consists of both secular and religious music by European composers. With great success, InCanto Vocale, in collaboration with musicians from ensemble a, performed the St. John Passion by J.S. Bach on April 2, 2022, and on March 8, 2024. Currently, the choir is working towards the performances of the St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach, which will take place on March 25 and 26, 2027. Dirigent Eva Vermeren is always looking for original concert formulas. Regularly, a healthy mix is made of early music in combination with contemporary compositions and choral arrangements. A composer is asked to compose new music according to the concert theme, and InCanto Vocale ensures the creation of the work. Thus, the concerts ‘Mysteria Gaudii’ and ‘Mysteria Gloriosa’ were already created, where old choral music is brought together with contemporary arrangements by Dagmar Feyen for choir and double bass or choir and saxophone. In the same vein, a next mystery of the rosary is in the making: ‘Mysteria Dolorosa’. In this project, the choir enters into a dialogue with the recorder. The intention is to sing all mysteries surrounding the rosary in the future. Composer Chris Dubois also wrote some new choral compositions for InCanto Vocale which were already brought together with Magnificats van Philippe De Monte. We are looking for concert organizers to let us be heard on their stage. The choir is flexible and can, thanks to the professional attitude of its singers, put together a concert program in a short time. InCanto Vocale has good contacts with contemporary composers. In consultation with the concert organizer, it is entirely possible to prompt these people to write new compositions. Eva Vermeren is a project choir under the expert direction of Eva Vermeren.
