Djangofolies

Fri, 26 Feb 2027 · 20:00
Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER, Ghent
€27
A storytelling concert with Tine de Donder, who brings the story of Django Reinhardt to life with live music. He is known all over the world. There are streets and squares named after him, festivals and cafes – and even a planet. A formidable guitarist. Een Roma. And a Belgian! But what do you actually still know about Django Reinhardt? Did you know that he was the first to let the electric guitar sound in Europe? That he was severely mutilated in his left hand at 18 and yet became such a virtuoso guitarist? That he was admired by BB King, Eric Clapton, Toots Thielemans, Jimmy Hendrickx and many others? Django Reinhardt undoubtedly belongs next to the greatest of jazz: Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. Tine De Donder, radio presenter at Klara, brings his story back to life in this storytelling concert. Together with the best live musicians, you will be immersed in the rich world of Django's music and the culture of the gypsies. This way you discover how that music still lives on today. Met Tcha Limberger, Koen De Cauter, Philip Catherine, Fapy Lafertin, Hans Mortelmans& Group, Djalt Baculalay and Jokke Schreurs. TIP: You can read or listen more about Tine De Donder's search in the book or podcast of the same name.
