Jan de Haas Quartet meets

Two top musicians, Jan de Haas and Dimitri Dumon, present a unique project in which jazz and classical percussion meet. Rarely do you hear vibraphone, marimba, piano, and percussion in such a balanced dialogue. An unusual combination with refreshing interpretations in a journey of discovery full of fascinating sound colors. With music by, among others, Eve Beuvens, Chick Corea, and Pat Metheny, a colorful, rhythmic, and compelling concert is created that will charm not only jazz fans but also the classical listener. Jan de Haas and Dimitri Dumon also bring young talent, creating a rich and surprising sound color. The basic lineup on stage is therefore expanded several times during this concert with members of Percussion on Stage, a collective of excellent former students and passionate students from Dimitri's classes. The repertoire combines recognizable international names (Corea, Metheny, Steps Ahead) with Belgian talent (Beuvens, Quartier). The concert appeals to both jazz lovers and classical music lovers. The warm, rhythmic, and melodic music and the fascinating staging also make this concert accessible to a wide audience. On the program, in addition to new work by the Belgian jazz pianist Eve Beuvens, are, among others, Serengeti (Bart Quartier), Brasilia from Lyric Suite (Chick Corea), Islands (Steps Ahead), Cold Light (B. Finley), The First Circle (P. Metheny). Jan de Haas: Jan de Haas has been interested in music from a young age. He starts in the percussion class of Armand Van de Walle, then continues his education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After three years, in 1982, he obtains the 'Performance Diploma'. Jan accompanies many American musicians there, including Tony Dagradi, Phil Wilson, Dave Kikoski, and Makoto Ozone. In 1981, he becomes the drummer in the BRT Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Etienne Verschueren. In 1982, he wins the First Prize at the Hoeilaart Jazz Contest. Since then, he has continuously accompanied numerous Belgian and foreign jazz musicians, including Chet Baker, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Steve Houben, Richard Rousselet, Jacques Pelzer, Charles Loos, Michel Herr, Erwin Vann, Pirly Zurstrassen, Jack Van Poll, Eddie Daniels, Riek Margitza, Jerome Richardson, Nathalie Loriers, and Fabrice Alleman. Jan de Haas teaches at the Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Since 1994, Jan de Haas has led his own group, JAN DE HAAS VIBES QUARTET, in which he plays vibraphone, marimba, and other percussion. Dimitri Dumon: Dimitri studies percussion at the Conservatorium Brussel and completes his education in Strasbourg. In 1999, he obtains the Eerste Prijs in Concours International de Vibraphone. With the percussion trio Triatu and Zefiro Torna, they receive the audience award /Klara Tandem Trofee during the chamber music competition ‘Gouden Vleugels’ in 2004. In 2011, the pedagogical project SlagRoom receives the European Yeah Award. Dimitri played countless sessions for Youth and Music. He is a teacher at the Jetse Academie and at the Academy for Performing Arts in Overijse. PERCUSSION ON STAGE is a collective of excellent former students and passionate students from the classes of Dimitri Dumon. Over the past 10 years, they have carried out various projects with a varied lineup, from solo to a group of 18 musicians. They also accompany choirs or play in collaboration with a concert band.
