Den Groeyenden Lierschen Blom-hof | 400 years of De Bie

How did the songs of a 17th-century rhetorician sound? In 1650, Cornelis de Bie published his first work, Den Groeyenden Lierschen Blom-hof, a collection of songs for the youth of Lier. This songbook – of which only a single copy has been preserved – contains 41 songs and poems, ranging from love and drinking songs to moralizing and religious-themed songs. Thanks to tune indications and musical notation, we can bring this music back to life after 400 years. Get acquainted with 17th-century Dutch song culture and listen to the songs of Cornelis de Bie during this lecture-concert. De Bie was an important notary and rhetorician. He wrote many works, ranging from songs to plays. Met Het Gulden Cabinet, a book of artists' biographies, makes De Bie still world-famous today. In 2027, we will reintroduce Lier to this special figure from Lier through a varied program.
