A Dionysian theater party about the intoxication of revenge, about power and beauty, and about the gods... and the sacrifices they demand. De Grieken, the foundation of Western storytelling. Also the foundation of a human image. War, war, and more war. Revenge, revenge, and more revenge. Toxic little men, clever and slavish little women, the gods... and the sacrifices they demand. The foundation to start with. The starting point. But did we ever leave? And aren't we still those same beginners? What on earth have we started? LAZARUS is turning twenty! We didn't really see that coming ourselves. Getting older happens by accident - losing hair and teeth too. But after 34 creations and many hundreds of performances, it is time to look back, forward, and sideways. And what do we see? Young actors, theater makers who are yearning for a place on stage, who want to make their voices heard. That is why we are happy to create this performance with 8 twenty-somethings from 4 theater schools . An exchange, a pollination, a theater meeting of passions, inspirations, aspirations, obsessions, and demons. Eagerly rummaging through the bin of our sources, we build, in dialogue with these young dogs, a new universe, our own theater world where deep questions, existential madness, self-mockery, and the joy of playing form the foundation. LAZARUS is turning twenty, twenty-somethings are becoming LAZARUS.
