Between speculating and inhabiting: student housing in Ixelles

The municipality of Ixelles has a significant number of higher education institutions on its territory, which is why it concentrates a non-negligible share of Brussels student housing. This visit therefore proposes to address the contemporary challenges of student housing (availability, accessibility, healthiness...), by relying on recent research (concerning for example coliving...), but also by valuing the heritage legacies of the municipality: the first prefabricated student housing on the Plaine campus, the automotive heritage of Avenue de la Couronne. The visit will also be an opportunity to debate the financialization of housing, and its impacts on city inhabitants.
